PVC Alumni Golf Tournament
Blythe Municipal hosts first Palo Verde College Alumni Tourney
By Randy Peterson
PVC Class of 1967
A small but enthusiastic crew of players participated in the Palo Verde College Alumni Golf Tournament on May 17 at Blythe Municipal Golf Course. The tournament used the ever-popular scramble format.
The team captained by Randy Peterson claimed the title as they rallied for five birdies and an eagle on the back nine to fire a seven-under-par 29 for the side. Joining Peterson on the squad that managed a four-under-par 33 on the front nine and a winning total of 62 were Pete Garcia, Manuel Rodriguez and Ronnie Blackwood along with Clancy and Millie Osborne.
Oscar Galvan's team of Joe Cota, Adam Garcia, Alvaro Saldana and Gabe Vega led after nine holes thanks to a six-under 31 on the side. A four-under 32 on the back nine allowed the victors to pull of the one-stroke victory.
Third place went to the team of Adrian Linares, Joey Jimenez, Paul Stewart, Robert Lopez and Lee Reynolds as they completed the 18-hole circuit with a 66 total.
Joe Cota headed the organization of the inaugural event and expects to see it grow into a most popular event.
Cota thanked the City of Blythe for its help in support of the event as well as the sponsors -- Coca Cola and Rick Copple, Danny Doyle and Valley Beverage, and Willie and Anne Getchell and the golf course staff.
