Counseling
The Counseling Department offers counseling, educational planning, and other services to assist students in achieving their educational goals at PVC. Counselors assist with short and long-term education planning as well as helping students make informed choices regarding career, transfer, and personal enrichment. Furthermore, counselors verify course requirements so that students meet graduation requirements, course prerequisites, and eligibility for transfer to four-year universities.
Counselors assist students with the following:
- Developing Student Education Plans
- Specialized Counseling for Special Programs
- Career Exploration and Planning
- Transfer Assistance and Planning
- Personal Counseling
- Campus and Community Referrals
- Academic/Progress Probation Counseling
- Student Success Strategies
Emphasis is placed upon assisting students in their growth and accepting responsibility for their decisions and actions. Counseling services are a fundamental and integral part of student success and the total educational process at the community college. Recognizing that each student is unique, counselors believe their primary responsibility is to respect students' individuality, encourage personal development, and foster a climate in which each student attains academic success. Our counseling staff generally has an open door policy, however, appointments made in advance would avoid waiting time that might be necessary to access and prepare files and other pertinent materials.
